At the age of eight, Joh began singing in his church choir, but he could not imagine making music his profession until he won a music competition at his primary school. This victory became a turning point, inspiring him to start a musical career and record his first album, “Nos Âmes.”
Kabumbayi Joh draws deep inspiration from everyday life experiences, weaving stories of love, struggle, hope, and resilience into his music. Singing in French, English, Swahili, and Lingala, he creates a bridge between cultures and communities, sharing messages that resonate far beyond borders.
He has collaborated with many artists, including Oumou Sangaré, Lokua Kanza, Mani Martin, and Tiken Jah Fakoly, on various projects aimed at uniting cultures from different countries.
Known professionally as Kabumbayi Joh, he is a Congolese singer, songwriter, arranger, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. His music is a fusion of jazz and soukous, a musical style originating from the Congo.
